About Bashful Beige Bunny

Bashful Bunny is the design the rest of the bunnies grew out of, and beige is the original colourway — the template every later Bashful was cut from. Jellycat's own copy is plain about the appeal: "scrummy-soft Jellycat fur and lovely long flopsy ears mean that with just one cuddle, you'll never want to let go." Black button eyes, a peach nose, long ears, long arms, tiny legs. That is the whole character, and it has barely moved in twenty years.

We don't publish a release date. The line runs back to the early 2000s, earlier than anything our records can pin down, so we'd rather show nothing than a wrong year.

For collectors the beige is the baseline rather than the prize. It runs from Tiny up to enormous, it seems to have been made continuously, and used ones are routinely asked at around retail while retired colourways — mint, sherbet, hot pink — are asked at several times it. This is a bunny you buy to keep. The Gigantic hasn't shown in Jellycat's index at our last five checks; that may mean sold out, a listing gap, or gone for good, and we can't tell which yet.

What we still don't know
  • The release date of the Bashful Beige Bunny, and of each individual size. No primary source dates any of them.
  • Whether the Gigantic (BGRAND1B) is retired. It is absent from Jellycat's index over five checks and jellyjournal.com's copy says "Design now retired", but destinationbabykids.com still carried a listing first seen 2026-01-12. Settled as unknowable by a human.
  • Whether the older 'OG' beige bunnies described on eBay (whiskers, stitched paws) represent a documented design revision or just seller shorthand. No source found either way.
  • Whether the Really Big, Giant and Gigantic sizes are still in production or are being sold through existing stock — every stockist observation for those SKUs is OutOfStock.
