About Bashful Dino

Bashful Dino is Jellycat's soft-not-scaly take on a prehistoric giant, and the company's own copy sets the tone better than anyone else's: "this mossy matey has chunky stomper-feet, a snuggly snout and fine squishy spines from head to tail," always rambling round "giving hugs to every t-rex and triceratops." That's the whole appeal in one line — a dinosaur built entirely out of squish, with the classic Bashful silhouette (floppy arms, beans in the bottom so he sits and slumps) rather than anything toothy.

He ran across an unusually wide ladder of sizes, from a palm-sized Small up to a Giant that stockists listed north of a metre, and there was also a dark-green variant with sage fur and darker spines. Those are separate items, not colourways of one row.

Jellycat's own EU page showed him in stock through September 2024 and out of stock from January 2025 onward, and he has since dropped off Jellycat's index entirely across five consecutive checks — consistent with retirement, though we can't yet name the date.

What we still don't know
  • The actual retirement date. Jellycat's page went out of stock between Sept 2024 and Jan 2025 and the SKUs have now vanished from the index, but no source states a retirement.
  • The true release year. Our stored 2019 conflicts with a Nov 2018 stockist listing, and nothing primary establishes a first-sale date.
  • Whether the dark-green variant preceded or ran alongside the mossy green — Jelly Journal says 'also available in this dark green version' without dating it.
  • Whether the Giant was ever widely distributed; only one stockist observation (bumbletree, out of stock) exists for BASG1DNO.
  • Real sale prices. Every price we hold is either a computed figure, a shop asking price, or a live eBay ask — none is a completed sale.
