About Bashful Fox Cub

Bashful Fox Cub is the Bashful range's woodland charmer: a ginger cub with a white-tipped tail, white inner ears and a black suedette nose, built on the same soft, bean-weighted body that made the Bashful Bunny a household shape. Jellycat's own copy calls him "a jiffly ginger cub" who "loves to play giggly games" but is "far from tricking you" — a fox drawn as friendly rather than sly, which is much of his appeal. Our field says simply "Orange"; Jellycat says ginger, and ginger is the truer word.

He runs the full Bashful ladder, from Small up through Medium, Huge, Really Big and Giant, and he anchors a wide family of spin-offs — blankie, soother, comforter, ring rattle, musical pull — which is usually a sign Jellycat considers a character a keeper rather than a season.

He is still listed on Jellycat's site, but archived snapshots show the Medium out of stock far more often than in, from mid-2024 through to the start of this year. That may mean nothing more than a popular line selling through faster than it restocks. Secondhand sellers routinely tag him "retired"; we've found no primary source that he is.

What we still don't know
  • The actual launch year. No primary Jellycat source dates the design, and shop first_listed dates only tell us when a retailer put up a page.
  • Whether the Medium's near-permanent out-of-stock state is a supply pattern or the beginning of a quiet retirement. Jellycat still lists it, which argues against retirement, but listed is not in stock.
  • Whether BAS3FXN — seen in one eBay title as 'Bashful Fox Cub Medium BAS3FXN – Retired' — is a genuine earlier SKU of this design or a seller typo for BAS3FXC. One unverified listing title is not enough to add a variant, so I have not treated it as one.
  • Whether the larger sizes (Huge, Really Big, Giant) are still in production. Every stockist observation for them is OutOfStock, and none appear in the archived Jellycat snapshots, which cover only the Medium.
  • The Giant's true dimensions — our row and the one stockist that states a size disagree by roughly 14cm in height.
