About Otto Sausage Dog
Otto is Jellycat's dachshund done straight — no costume, no pun, just a very long dog in dark chocolate fur with caramel muzzle, brows and paws. Jellycat's own copy sets the tone better than any summary: "Tiny legs and a great big heart... With waggly ears, a perky tail, golden eyebrows and sassy spirit, bright-eyed Otto's a playful little pal!" That sassiness is the whole appeal. Where Bashful puppies are round and sleepy, Otto is horizontal and alert, which makes him read as a specific dog rather than a generic one — the reason dachshund owners buy him as a stand-in for their own.
He has become one of Jellycat's more branched characters. Beyond the plush sizes there's a bag, a bag charm, a Winter Warmer version, and Otto the Loyal Long Dog, a padded hardback that pairs him with his own story — most of those companion pieces have since retired while the core plush keeps going. That combination, a still-current character with a retired supporting cast, is what draws collectors to him.
He first appeared in 2021; we know the year but not the day, so it's shown as a range.
- Exact release date within 2021 — no primary source gives a day or month; shop first_listed dates (earliest 2021-10-01) are not release evidence.
- Whether the Small (OT6SDP) is current or retired — we have no row for it at all.
- Whether the companion SKUs our catalogue marks retired (bag, bag charm, Winter Warmer, book bundles) were seasonal lines or true retirements; we can't tell which from the data we hold.
- No verified sold prices anywhere — every price figure we hold is an asking price or a computation, so nothing here supports a statement of what Otto is worth.
