About Toothy Fox

Toothy Fox belongs to Jellycat's Toothies — a small family of animals defined by one joke told very well: a broad, chunky grin of soft white corduroy teeth stitched onto an otherwise perfectly ordinary cuddly toy. On the fox it lands especially well, because the sly, close-mouthed fox of storybooks is exactly the character you don't expect to be beaming at you. Jellycat's own copy calls his fur gingerbread-coloured; stockists who reprinted it describe the same warm ginger coat, a white-tipped tail, small black eyes and stubby limbs.

He is gone from Jellycat's own index — nine consecutive checks with no listing — and long-standing stockists mark him retired, so this is a secondhand-only character now. Beyond that we're careful: we have no archived Jellycat page for him, and the Toothies are usually dated to 2016 by collector references rather than by Jellycat, so treat the year as approximate.

Sizes are the messy part. Sellers quote him anywhere from 15" to 41cm, and at least one lists a smaller version we can't yet confirm.

What we still don't know
  • Exact release date — no archived Jellycat page exists for this design; the 2016 year comes from a single collector reference, not Jellycat
  • Exact retirement date — we know it was still stocked at some point and is absent from Jellycat's index now, but not when it went
  • How many sizes were produced, and whether the 27cm (J3405) and 41cm (J2909) listings are separate sizes or mislabelled measurements
  • Whether a genuine Small size existed — asserted by one eBay title only, uncorroborated
  • Manufacturer RRP — the £17.99/£19.99 figures are shop asking prices, not Jellycat RRP, and our stored $24 USD RRP has no sourced basis
