About Toothy T Rex

Toothy T Rex belongs to Jellycat's Toothy range — a family built around one joke, told well: an oversized mouth crowded with soft, blunt teeth, worn by animals who look delighted rather than fierce. The T Rex is the range's obvious star. He is green, snub-nosed and grinning, with teeth stitched in a contrasting cord that stops the whole thing reading as scary. Stockist copy has him "always ready for an adventure," fond of hiding in cupboards to surprise you — the kind of character note that placed him firmly in the nursery rather than the dinosaur shelf.

He is retired. Jellycat's own index no longer lists either size, and retired-plush specialists carry him only in their archive sections. Our records place the release in 2016 — we know the year but not the day, so it is shown as a range.

One thing worth knowing when you shop: Toothy T Rex is routinely confused with Jellycat's Fossilly T-Rex, another retired green dinosaur. Most secondhand listings that surface under a search for this one are actually Fossilly. Check the tag.

What we still don't know
  • Exact release date within 2016 — no primary source; year comes from jellyjournal's record, not Jellycat
  • Retirement date — Jellycat's index absence began 2026-07-29 for our checks, but the design was already flagged retired by stockists well before that, so the true retirement year is unknown
  • Whether a Small (~22cm) SKU exists in our catalogue under a different key, and what its SKU is
  • The full membership of the Toothy range — jellyjournal says 9 animals; we could not corroborate that number from a primary source
  • No archive.org coverage of Jellycat's own page for this design, so no Tier 1 description or official dimensions
