About Bartholomew Bear
Bartholomew is Jellycat's plain teddy bear, and that plainness is the point. Jellycat's own copy calls him "tawny-tousled and full of softness… adorably podgy," and there is no gimmick beyond that: scruffy fudge-coloured fur, black button eyes, a chunky tummy, round ears. He arrived around 2013 and has since become less a single toy than a small institution — the base bear has spawned bedtime and Heartthrob versions, comforters and soothers, musical pulls, picture books, outfits, and a run of Liberty-print editions.
That longevity shows in the record. Jellycat's own site has cycled the Medium in and out of stock repeatedly across 2024–2026 — a workhorse that sells through rather than something scarce. The Gigantic 96cm is the exception: it has been missing from Jellycat's index for five consecutive checks. That may mean sold out, or genuinely discontinued — we can't tell which yet.
So the scarcity here lives in the variants, not the core bear. A standard Bartholomew is easy to find; a retired Liberty one is not.
- Exact release date — only the year is bounded, and even that is approximate.
- Whether the Gigantic 96cm is retired or simply sold out; five absent checks is evidence, not proof.
- Whether the Tiny (BARS6BR) shares the same release window as the larger sizes — no primary source found.
- Actual resale values: every price we hold is an asking price, so we can say nothing about what one sells for.
