About Fossilly Triceratops

Fossilly Triceratops belongs to Jellycat's Fossilly range, the house's long-running set of round, bean-bottomed dinosaurs that also includes a Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus and T-Rex. Jellycat's own copy plays her arrival for comedy — "you always know when Fossilly Triceratops is coming: the ground starts to wibble and wobble" — and the build backs it up: a broad, weighted body that sits squarely on stout legs, a wide scalloped frill, three squidgy suedette horns and a long tail. She is fur rather than scales, which is the whole trick of the range; nothing about her is meant to be fierce.

Worth knowing that Jellycat has described her colour two ways over the years. Older product copy, still echoed by stockists, calls it deep green; the 2024 version on Jellycat's own site calls it soft teal. Both are Jellycat — the wording changed, and photography suggests a green that leans blue in some light.

She is genuinely gone. Jellycat's European store showed her out of stock from early 2025 and the US store marked her discontinued in November 2025, and she has been absent from Jellycat's index at every check since. Secondhand listings are plentiful but those are asking prices, not sales.

What we still don't know
  • Release date. Our release_year 2021 is derived and only weakly consistent with the earliest stockist listing (daisyandhen.com.au, June 2021) — and a shop's first listing is not a release date. We know the year only approximately, so this is shown as a range.
  • Whether the small size (FOS6TRI) was retired at the same time as the medium. We have no Tier 1 snapshot for FOS6TRI at all; its absence from Jellycat's index is evidence, not proof.
  • Whether the colour change in Jellycat's copy reflects an actual fabric change between production runs or only a rewrite of the wording.
  • No primary source found for when the Fossilly range as a whole launched, so no 'founding' or 'first' claim is made.
