About Toothy Dragon

The Toothy Dragon is the mythical entry in Jellycat's Toothies range — a cherry-red dragon whose whole personality lives in a wide grin of chunky white corduroy teeth. Where most Jellycat dragons go for either cuddly (Bashful) or grand (Onyx, Rose), the Toothies took the opposite route: a flat, cartoonish, slightly goofy face on a beanbag-bottomed body that sits up on a shelf rather than slumping. Darker red ears, stubby wings and a row of spikes down the back are the only nods to actual dragon-ness. It reads as a joke told kindly, which is exactly why people who own one tend to keep it.

The range is usually described as nine animals — donkey, mutt, bat, shark, T-Rex and others among them — so the dragon is normally collected as part of a set rather than alone. It is retired, and has been for a while: Jellycat's own index no longer lists it, and UK stockists mark it discontinued. Dated sources point to a 2016 release, but that rests on a single hobbyist database, so treat the year as likely rather than settled.

What we still don't know
  • Exact release date — only a year, and that from a single hobbyist database with no primary or archive corroboration.
  • Retirement date — no snapshot or announcement found; we only know it was gone by our first absence check.
  • Whether TO3D and TO3DR are two genuine catalogue entries or one design recorded twice (TO3D appears to be a design-level code from Jelly Journal rather than a distinct purchasable variant). No second size of Toothy Dragon was corroborated anywhere.
  • Realised sale prices — every figure available is an asking price on a live listing.
  • The full membership of the nine-animal Toothies range.
