About Louie Lion
Louie is Jellycat's lounging lion — a floor-dweller rather than a sitter, built long and low with soft, squishy haunches and a tassel at the end of his tail. Jellycat's own copy called him "a glamorous fellow, with a silky mane, soft honey fur and a milk-white muzzle" and, tellingly, "loveably lazy": he is described as ready to pounce but likelier to snooze. That honey-and-cream colouring is worth noting, because it is warmer and more two-toned than a flat "yellow" suggests.
He came in three sizes — Little at about 29cm, Large at 46cm, and a Huge at roughly 55cm — and the shape scales unusually, since the number that grows is length rather than height. The Large is the one collectors talk about most, and the one that turns up in secondhand listings advertised as retired.
Jellycat's index no longer lists any Louie size, and every stockist we track shows him out of stock. Our last direct evidence of him on sale is July 2024. That reads as retired, though we can't name the day it happened.
- The actual release date, and whether the 2020 year is correct at all — no primary source found.
- When Louie was retired. We have him in stock on Jellycat's EU site 2024-07-24 and absent from the index by 2026-07-29; nothing narrows the gap.
- Whether all three sizes retired together or the Huge went first — every observation we hold is already out of stock.
- Whether the Huge (LOU1H) was sold in all markets; it has no jellycat.com-sourced record in our data, only stockist listings and an image reference in the archived spec block.
- Genuine scarcity. Secondhand listings describe the Large as 'rare and retired', but that is seller language on live asking prices, not evidence of how many were made or what they actually sell for.
