About Fergus Frog
Fergus is Jellycat's grumpy elder statesman of the pond. Jellycat's own copy calls him "a mossy sweetheart in soft velour" — beany base and toes, hooded eyes, a piped mouth — "a little rumpled and somewhat grumpy, but full of froggy wisdom." That's the whole appeal in one line: he is a soft toy with a mood. Where most Jellycat faces are open and hopeful, Fergus looks like he has been sitting on the same stone for forty years and would rather you didn't mention it. The velour and the bean-weighted base mean he slumps rather than sits, which only helps the impression.
He has an unusual career. Fergus arrived in the Freshwater Animals range around 2021, didn't sell especially well, and was gone quickly — after which collector demand climbed sharply, the familiar pattern of a character people appreciate more once they can't have him. Jellycat brought him back in 2024 under the Heritage banner tied to the company's 25th anniversary, a limited return rather than a permanent reinstatement.
He is absent from Jellycat's index again now. That may mean sold out, the end of the anniversary window, or retired for good — we can't tell which yet.
- Exact release and retirement days for the original FF6FL — we know the year at best, so this is shown as a range.
- Whether the 2024 Heritage run was formally limited-to-2024 or simply sold through; secondary sources say the former but we have Jellycat's own listing in stock as late as 2025-07-17.
- Whether a Medium original (2021) exists in our catalogue as a missing row.
- Whether the current absence from Jellycat's index means sold out or retired.
