About Ricky Rain Frog
Ricky is Jellycat's most famous amphibian, and he got there by looking thoroughly unimpressed. The shape does the work: a big round pea-green body, a very small bottom, black button eyes and a stitched line of a mouth that reads as a permanent frown. Jellycat's own copy has softened around him over the years — an earlier version called him "ponderous, chunky" and "very thoughtful indeed, especially in the mornings," while the current page simply calls him grumpy and notes he's the only frog in town who can't swim a stroke.
He arrived in 2022 and became one of the brand's genuine hits, spawning a keyring, a bag charm, a pouch, a tote, a pin, seasonal Santa and vampire versions, and — in 2025 — a smiling counterpart, which tells you how much weight that frown was carrying.
He is not rare. He is popular, which behaves differently: Jellycat's own pages have flipped between in and out of stock repeatedly since 2024, so scarcity here is a restock cycle, not retirement.
- Exact release date within 2022 — no primary source gives a day or month, so this stays a year-wide range.
- Whether the 'ponderous/thoughtful' copy was replaced by the 'grumpy/can't swim' copy at a specific date, or gradually across regional sites. We can only bound it as after 2024-06-20.
- Whether the Medium's official height is 13cm (our orig_desc) or ~15cm (a retail article's 5.9in). Nothing primary settles it; the database's own dimension fields should be trusted over the article.
- Whether the current OutOfStock runs on us.jellycat.com are supply gaps or the start of a wind-down. Listed with a zero absent streak argues for supply, but we can't tell yet.
- eBay titles calling Ricky 'rare' or 'discontinued' are seller phrasing, not evidence; no source supports either.
- No sale prices anywhere — every figure we hold is an asking price or a computed median, so nothing here says what he is worth.
