About Fuddlewuddle Lion
Fuddlewuddle Lion belongs to the range that gave Jellycat its softest silhouette: the Fuddlewuddles, whose fur is deliberately rippled and rumpled rather than smooth, so the whole animal reads as slightly tousled. Jellycat's own copy leans into it — a lion in "gorgeous fudge fur" with a "lovely amber mane," who looks like he tumbled into a tub of toffee and who, despite the manefull of menace, is really a vegetarian with a weakness for jelly gazelles. That gentleness is the point. He is a lion for children who are not yet sure about lions.
He comes in three sizes — Medium, Large and Huge — and the gap between them matters more here than usual, because the Huge is where collector interest concentrates; the asking prices we see on used listings for Huge run several times those for Medium, though asking is not selling and we would not call that a value.
All three still appear in Jellycat's own index as of our last check, but recent snapshots and stockists show him out of stock rather than buyable. That may mean sold out, a pause, or a quiet retirement — we can't tell which yet.
- Release date. Our 2017 comes from a derived year-only bound, and Jelly Collector also says 2017, but that is a single collector database, not a primary source — and an Amazon listing for the Medium carries an ASIN consistent with a considerably earlier catalogue presence. We know the year no better than as a range, and possibly not that.
- Whether the design is retired, seasonally paused, or simply between stock runs.
- Dimensions. Our rows carry only the third-party 'approximately' figures (23x13, 31x16, 44x23 cm); no Jellycat-published measurements were found.
- Whether the Huge's higher asking prices reflect genuine scarcity or simply the size premium — we observed no completed sales.
