About Smudge Elephant - Tiny
Smudge Elephant is Jellycat's study in floppiness: warm grey-brown fur, bright black eyes, enormous soft flap ears, and legs squishy enough that Jellycat's own copy calls them "trumpet paws." The company's characterisation is unusually specific — a sleepy sort who "keeps falling asleep on the march," an adorable dreamer rather than a jungle adventurer. That sleepiness is the whole design brief. Where Jellycat's other elephants sit up (Fuddlewuddle) or slouch comically (Slackajack), Smudge is built to drape. Set him on a shelf and he pours off it.
He belongs to the Smudge range rather than to elephants alone — Smudge Rabbit shares the same soft-limbed, half-asleep construction, which is what collectors mean when they say a toy "feels like a Smudge."
He has been in and out of Jellycat's own store repeatedly over the past two years, and he is listed again now. Most stockists show him out of stock while Jellycat does not, which is the ordinary rhythm of a popular current line, not scarcity. The Tiny size arrived far later than the Medium and is the one collectors chase; secondhand asking prices for it sit close to shop price, which is not the same as what it sells for.
- The actual first release date of the Medium. Nothing primary establishes 2018, or any year.
- Whether SMGL2E is officially 'Large' or 'Huge' in Jellycat's own naming — stockists split.
- Whether Tiny is 13cm or 19cm; sources conflict.
- Whether the persistent out-of-stock pattern across stockists reflects demand, a supply gap, or a size being quietly wound down. We can't tell which.
